April 4, 1917 Loxahatchee Sub-Drainage District Established
Ida Mae Thorgensen one of first teachers, postmaster, and store keeper
1918 Experimental Dairy on D Road—Silos still exist
1918 Southern States Land and Timber built 1st school built at 
Valencia Dr. & Orange Ave. Moved to corner of D Road and 
Tangerine Dr. School building used for church & Sunday school.
1919 Horse-and-Buggy trail along the West Palm Beach Canal-(Southern Blvd)
Road was finally improved in 1924.
1920 Blydenstein’s Chicken Farm D Road—sold eggs in Palm Beach
1925 Loxahatchee Sub-Drainage District chartered under Florida Statute 298
1931 Palm Beach Loxahatchee Packing House up and running
1935 Pump installed at D Road and SR 80
1936 School building seen at the SF Fairgrounds—built by Roy Burg
1949 Westside Baptist Church—built by volunteers—(’74) became volunteer fire station
After WW II Southern States Land and Timber sold land to George Bensel
Late 1940’s Electricity came to Loxahatchee Groves
1950’s –1960’s Roads north of Collecting Canal used more often
1954 “Pappy’s”guava jelly factory built west of Packing House on SR 80
Later became a grocery store run by the Jarriel family.
Mid 1950’s Gas pumps available in Loxahatchee Groves
1958 Loxahatchee Groves sold to Loxahatchee Investments—
(Food Fair Grocery Corporation –later called Pantry Pride)
1959 Royal Palm Beach chartered with a population of 11 people
20 years of Volunteer Fire Dept--used equipment created by residents
1965 The Old School House closed
Sunsport Gardens, a naturist camp, opened
1968 Florida Forestry Service came to Palm Beach County
1969 Fire Tower built at Loxahatchee Forestry Station
Loxahatchee Landowners’ Association formed by Erwin Swain
Home mail delivery started in Loxahatchee Groves.
1970’s New boundaries for Loxahatchee Groves included 162nd Dr
on west, and Callery-Judge’s southern border east to E Road on the north
Mid 1970’s Moose Lodge built on F Road.
May 23, 1973 Loxahatchee’s first newspaper—“The Loxahatchee News”
September 1975 Sun Press Newspaper in the Western Communities
June 1978 Bob Pressler worked to get Okeechobee Blvd bridge across
Folsom Canal opened
September 1978 Jamie and Janie Undell introduced
“Loxahatchee:Love It, and Leave It Alone” shirts and bumper stickers
1979 Loxahatchee Groves Water Control District name change &
D Road property purchased
1980 Town-Crier founded.
1982 Post Office built next to the Palms West Plaza
1980’s Christian Crosses located at Folsom & Southern (site of Walgreen’s)
Early 2000’s Christian Crosses relocated at Okeechobee Blvd & F Rd
1983-1984 Okeechobee Blvd paved from Folsom to Seminole-Pratt
July 1984 County Park on Southern Blvd established
August 1985 Hospital wouldn’t use LGLG flag saying-
“Loxahatchee Groves, Love It and Leave It Alone”
January 1986 Palms West Hospital dedicated
1986 Old School House moved to the County Park—vandalized & abused
1988 Loxahatchee GROVES Landowners’ Association formed
1995 Wellington incorporated
June 4, 1996 The Loxahatchee Groves Neighborhood Plan Sent to County
2003-2006 Incorporation Committee works for right for referendum vote
July 2006 Incorporation Bill passes both houses and is signed by the governor
October 10, 2006 Loxahatchee Groves votes on Incorporation
March 13, 2007 First town elections held
March 29, 2007 Town Council sworn in
May 2007 Town Hall opened in rented space in the Palms West Plaza
October 1, 2007 PBSO contract began
July 1, 2008 Town Council adopted it's first Strategic Vision Plan (click here for Plan)
September 16, 2008 Town Council transmitted it's first Comprehensive Plan to the DCA
