The Strategic Visioning Process that the Town just completed will be incorporated into the Comprehensive Planning Process.  There are at least two approaches that can be used to bring visioning into the planning process. Many communities develop a vision at the beginning of the planning process that acts as a guide for the rest. Conducting visioning at the beginning of the process builds a foundation upon which to build and evaluate the rest of the process. Citizens feel they are in control and that their input is meaningful when visioning is conducted early on. Click here for more information about the Strategic Vision process.

Comprehensive Planning in Florida:
Adopted by the 1985 Legislature, The Local Government Comprehensive Planning and Land Development Regulation Act (see Chapter 163, Part II, F.S.) - also known as Florida's Growth Management Act - requires all of Florida's 67 counties and 410 municipalities to adopt Local Government Comprehensive Plans that guide future growth and development. Comprehensive plans contain chapters or "elements" that address future land use, housing, transportation, infrastructure, coastal management, conservation, recreation and open space, intergovernmental coordination, and capital improvements. A key component of the Act is its "concurrency" provision that requires facilities and services to be available concurrent with the impacts of development.
