MAYOR DAVID BROWNING (Seat 4)
Loxahatchee Groves 1st Mayor David Browning has lived on D Road in Loxahatchee Groves since 1979. He was born in Xenia, Ohio and grew up on a farm that was in the family for 100 years. He came to Florida in 1971 with plans to work for only a summer and return to college. Instead, he enjoyed the warm weather and the construction trade and became a bricklayer. He married Sharyn in 1973 and has 3 adult sons - twins, Matthew & Scott and Eric. He was on the LGWCD Board for more than 12 years. This experience was a great asset to the board. He has continually worked hard to find ways to improve our roads and canals while staunchly guarding our rural lifestyle and keeping our taxes as low as possible. Dave has been a member of the Loxahatchee Groves Landowners‟ Association since he moved here. He served for several years as the President. He was also a member of the Neighborhood Plan Committee that worked with the county staff to develop the guide. The purpose of this guide was to educate as well as reflect on the needs, concerns and desires of the Loxahatchee Groves community. Dave's experiences & reputation with community endeavors, as well as resolving daily problems on the job, gives him the insight needed to work for the Town of Loxahatchee Groves.
VICE-MAYOR DENNIS LIPP (Seat 5)
Vice Mayor Dennis Lipp first got involved in the LGLA in the mid 1990's. Dennis served on the Rural Vista Committee and was the lead author of the Rural Vista Guidelines for Non-Residential Projects. PBC Department of Planning and Zoning adopted Rural Vista for all commercial projects in the western communities. Dennis also served as the spokesman for the Incorporate Alternative Sub-Committee setup by the LGLA in 2001. Dennis went on to be one of the founding members of the Committee to Incorporate Loxahatchee Groves. Dennis resigned from the incorporation committee in 2006 in order to start a new career in the on-line investment business. Dennis' campaign slogan "Imagine the Future Encapsulating the Past" sums up his committment to keep the Groves rural. Dennis believes that with proper planning and working together that we can structure a community that is focused on keeping the Groves RURAL. We are a diverse community and we need to work together to keep property taxes low and continue to be a place where current residents enjoy living. The concept of "Rural Town" is a place where future residents will find a less structured municipality where the freedom to live the rural life-style still exists. Dennis is committed to doing the work that lies ahead for the Town Council. In September of 2007, Commissioner Santamaria appointed Dennis to the County's Land Use Advisory Board. With this appointment, Dennis will continue to help guide the future of managed growth in our rural communities.
COUNCILMAN RON JARRIEL (Seat 1)
Councilman Ron Jarriel was recently elected as a Town Council Member for Seat 3. Ron was appointed to the Loxahatchee Groves Water Control Board of Supervisors on November 13, 2000 to fill the vacant seat left by Bryant Culpepper. He served as a L.G.W.C.D. Supervisor until 2009. His goal is to serve the community of Loxahatchee Groves to the best of his ability. Ron is 56 years old, has been a resident of Loxahatchee Groves for 46 years, and has been happily married for 34 years to Sharon. The Jarriels have a 15-year-old son named Ronnie, Jr. Being a Vietnam veteran, Ron served four years in the Marine Corps and has been a firefighter/driver with Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue for 30 years. Ron takes a lot of pride in his family, country and community. As a supervisor, Ron‟s major concern is that we have good drainage and safe roads. He says our roads need to be in good condition, especially to aid in keeping Fire-Rescue and Police response times to a minimum.
COUNCILMAN RYAN LIANG (Seat 3)
Councilman Ryan Liang is a resident of the Town of Loxahatchee Groves for over 10 years; is a farmer and nurseryman; is a certified Arborist; is an experienced entrepreneur; is an experienced businessman and can manage a budget; applies Best Management Practices; is a problem solver; is an avid fisherman; is concerned about the well-being of Loxahatchee Groves. Ryan's Biography: Born in Miami. February 18, 1979; Graduated from North Miami Sr High School (1997); Attended University of Florida; Coached North Miami Swim Team; Miami Country Day School Women's Water Polo Team; Braddock Sr High School Men's & Women's Water Polo Team Community Involvement: Member of: Florida Nursery Growers & Landscapers Association; Florida Fruits & Vegetable Association; International Society of Arborists; Tropical Fruit Growers of South Florida; Local Ecopia; Our Lady of Apostles Catholic Church.
COUNCILMAN JIM ROCKETT (Seat 2)
Councilman Jim Rockett became a member of the Town Council in 2010. He grew up in rural New York State and moved to south Florida in 1980 and now lives in Loxahatchee Groves with his wife Nancy. Jim is the oldest of three generations of Rocketts living in the Groves and he also manages a family business here. Jim has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Pace University and is a Certified Management Accountant. As a professional accountant for over forty years and as a Homeowner’s Association Board member and President for fifteen years, Jim brings valuable skills and experience to the Town Council. Jim’s approach to serving the people of Loxahatchee Groves is to ensure the Town applies sound financial principles in all decisions, look for common ground between resident’s needs and their livelihoods and provide structure or regulations that will protect our natural environment while preserving our rural lifestyle. Prior to taking his seat on the Council, Jim has been intimately involved with the Town’s development of Land Use Codes and Environmental Codes as well as serving as vice-chair of the Town’s Finance Advisory and Audit Committee.
